Reveal celestial wonders like the desolate beauty of the lunar terrain, the serene structure of Saturn’s rings or the brightest deep sky treasures of the Messier catalog with Explore Scientific’s 127mm FCD100 Apochromatic Refractor.

This is essentially the same scope as the ES-ED127075-03 but offering greater quality optics. We use Hoya FCD100 optics which is very similar in characteristics as Ohara FPL-53. Relying on technological innovation, we have successfully launched the mass production of high-performance optical glass at the apex of the FCD family. Combining it with optical glass of high refractive index allows us to achieve unprecedented advanced chromatic aberration correction. Hoya FCD100 is considered the best glass ever produced by Hoya.

Having a true diffraction-limited optical design and sized to encourage spontaneous stargazing sessions, this high-quality telescope is a perfect grab-and-go instrument for exploring the skies.

Featuring an air-spaced triplet optical design that virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations, this telescope generates brilliant high-contrast images by combining genuine HOYA FCD100 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and proprietary EMD enhanced multi-layer coatings on all optical surfaces.

In addition, this amazing scope also includes a 2.5" Hexagonal focuser with very rigid design and strong support. Up to 10 lbs of gear can be loaded onto this focuser.

ED127 Classic White f/7.5 Air Spaced Triplet with Hoya FCD100 optics and Integrated Dew Shield; 952mm focal length; 2.5" HEX Focuser; Cradle Ring with Handle and Losmandy Style Dovetail Plate; Explore Finder Scope Base installed on scope; 99% Reflective 2" Diagonal. Weighs 18lbs. (Case and Finder Scope NOT Included)

This is the bomb!
This exciting new telescope will shake up the industry. It features Hoya FCD100 glass and a 2.5" Hexagonal focuser. What makes this telescope such the bomb? It's optical glass. More details about the quality of the glass later.

It comes in a classic white aluminum tube and weighs less than 20 lbs. It includes a newly designed 2.5" Hexagonal focuser, cradle rings, 2 extension tubes for visual work and a 2" 99% reflective diagonal.

FCD-100 127mm

Here is a scientific comparison of the Hoya FCD100 versus the FPL53 from Ohara.

Our first prototype has been in the hands of John O'Neill, a very accomplished astrophotographer for the past 10 months. John borrowed this scope at Winter Star Party and was blown away. So much so that he convinced us to sell it to him.

Here is what he had to say about it: "I had my favorite Tak 16mm eyepiece, that I use to compare scopes and placed it in the diagonal and pointed the scope toward the cell tower that had a nice glass light with the sun causing a hot spot for me to observe any spurious color exhibited with the scope. Racking the focuser in and out of focus, to my surprise there was NONE."

"After it was loaned to me, I took my RC off my EM-400 mount and mounted the new refractor. I was able to get three good images that night and after I got home I processed the data. I already new that the data was going to be great after I observed tiny pinpoint stars on my 600 sec subs in the core of the Rosette, same on the Owl and M78. The scope exhibited zero color shift. I did a Rhonchi test of the optics and as expected saw razor straight lines on both sides of focus. Star tests on Sirius also exhibited textbook diffraction patterns."
